Why You Should Consider Clear Aligners

For many people, the obstacle between them and straighter teeth is not the treatment itself. It is the memory of metal braces: the brackets, the wires, the tightening appointments. If that picture has kept you from doing anything about a smile you feel self-conscious about, clear aligners are worth a look. They straighten teeth with a series of soft plastic trays, and they fit naturally into the way we practice Fear-Less Dentistry: gentle by design, with as little to dread as possible.

The comfortable alternative to braces

Metal braces have sharp wires and brackets that can scrape and injure the inside of your mouth, and the periodic tightening visits they require can be genuinely uncomfortable. Clear aligners work differently. Each tray is made from a soft, flexible plastic, custom fabricated to your teeth, with no sharp edges and nothing to tighten. Instead of adjustments, you simply switch to the next tray in your series every two to four weeks, and you do not need to visit the dentist as often as you would with braces.

For a patient who is nervous about dental work, that difference matters. The treatment moves forward quietly at home, one gentle tray at a time.

Discreet, and removable when it counts

Aligners are worn over the upper and lower teeth and are nearly invisible, so you do not have to worry about them changing how you look while you wear them. They should stay in for at least 22 hours a day, but they come out when you need them to: for meals, for photographs, for a special occasion, or to play sports.

That removability also lifts the dietary restrictions braces impose. You can eat popcorn, hard candy, and other foods without worry, because nothing is glued to your teeth for food to catch on.

Simpler hygiene, healthier treatment

With braces, food and bacteria can stay trapped between brackets and wires, and cleaning around them often takes specialized tools. Aligners come out, so you brush, floss, and use mouthwash exactly as you always have. Keeping hygiene simple during treatment means you are less likely to deal with bad breath, plaque and tartar buildup, cavities, and tooth decay along the way.

What clear aligners can treat

Clear aligners handle mild to moderate concerns, including overbites, underbites, open bites, and crossbites, as well as general misalignment, gaps between teeth, and overcrowding. At Smile Arts Dental we offer this treatment through CandidPro clear aligners, and a short exam with Dr. Balaban is all it takes to find out whether you are a good candidate.

If you have been putting off straightening your teeth because braces sounded miserable, this is the low-stress path. Call us at (317) 575-1995 or request an appointment online, and we will help you decide whether clear aligners are right for you.
